Google Talk est le client Jabber propriétaire de Google. Il ne peut se connecter qu'au serveur Jabber de Google (talk.google.com).
Le service Google Talk est également accessible par GMail et Google Talk Gadget.
Fonctionnalités
Il supporte un nombre volontairement limité de fonctionnalités et propose ainsi une interface très simple et épurée (fonds blanc à polices colorées « à la Google » diront certains). Google Talk gère les avatars (en vCard via la XEP 0153, comme iChat et Pidgin 2.0) et les thèmes de fenêtre de discussion comme Adium, Kopete et Skype pour Mac OS X.
En dehors de la présence et des messages en texte simple, il supporte Jingle Audio, le protocole de voix sur IP créé par Google et la Jabber Software Foundation. Google Talk fonctionne bien, même derrière un NAT.
Le service est en version beta, comme la plupart des services Google.

- Le transfert de fichier utilise Jingle. Aucun autre client n'est encore compatible avec ce type de transfert.
- Ne supporte pas les groupes dans la liste de contact.
- Pas de MUC.
